Traditional Color Theory

RYB color mixture

It’s important to have a basic recognition of color relationships, and this learning will help young learners to perform painting. This theory can assist color blindless or deaf children to gain color mixing knowledge for art performance. The traditional color theory represents set of colors used in subtractive color mixing. It is commonly used in art education, especially painting. One of the methods to approach art is by using the ‘colorwheel’. Colorwheel is a visual organization of color circle. Colorwheel helps learners to recognize the differences between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

Primary Colors: Blue, Red, Yellow

– these colors can no be created by mixing

Secondary Colors: Orange, Green, Violet

-Learners are able to create these colors by combing two primary colors. (For example: Blue and red create violet, yellow and red make orange.)

Tertiary Colors: These colors are creating by mixing primary colors with its neighboring secondary colors. Thus, we can get several color combinations. (For example: yellow-orange, red-orange,blue-greem)

Moreover, Colors have temperature and meaning. People will have different feelings when they face set of colors. Orange, yellow, and red represent warm. Blue, purple, and green represent coolness. As well, each hue can let learners achieve different values. Yellow will be the lightest color, and violet will be the darkest color. Leaners can scan a colorwheel and view it in grayscale. This will be very helful for color blindness children to recognize how each color value relate to others.

Standard Color Wheel

Task 1: Color Identification

a. How to create violet and green color by using primary color?

b. Showing how to create tertiary colors by using primary and secondary colors.( can not use examples)

c. Using grayscale to assess color’s values in sequence.

Task: 2: Colorwheel Challenge

a.Create your own colorwheel based on colorwheel model and identification.

b.Moreover, where are gray and brown colors? Is it possible to create these colors by using colorwheel? (Hint: using opposite colors from colorwheel model)

c. Using your colorwheels to express feelings and temperature by mixing colors, and you can draw a picture.
