Technology Choices

Traditional Art is heavily reliant on interaction through hands on participation, most grade schools and universities push for in-person lectures (even through the recent trials of Covid19) due to the significant loss of learning that occurs when traditional practices, such as painting, are attempted to be taught online. The teacher-student interaction is crucial to learning art, because visual arts as a field has more in common with an apprenticeship, than it does with typical academic subjects like science or math.

However, as we come into the modern technological era, the importance of online accessibility in learning is more pressing than ever before. Our Learning Resource attempts to reach a happy medium between online and in-person lectures. Lessons, materials, and resources are all accessible on this website, to be continually referenced by both teachers and students at home or in-class. In-class sessions will mostly be comprised of live demonstration and activities, with the website being brought up with a classroom projector as needed.

The use of a website will cut down on the use of paper and loss of in-class information. Everything the student needs, including homework, and tasks, will be made available to them at any time online with the website. In light that a student can not participate in-person, the website will still have sufficient information for them to complete the tasks and lecture outside the classroom.

The student will need to be able to access the internet to make use of this resource, but should otherwise be able to access the site and all needed web articles and videos through a computer or phone.
